Fifteen minutes of fame…
More like 6 days, actually. On January 20th, 2004, Adbusters featured a photo of mine on their splash page. I received more than 82,000 hits. Unprepared for the additional traffic, Defaultworld was (and still is) very much under construction. I scrambled to update content and give people a reason to return. Although the site traffic has dropped off, it's still much higher than prior to the adbusters adventure. Hopefully I'll be able to keep you coming back! eDub

A funny thing happened on the way to...
I came across this sign while wandering the public transit system of a large American city recently. Messages are everywhere, most commercial in nature. The drive to embed messages in your subconscious for financial and/or political gain has never been stronger. Fortunately a brave few seek to disrupt the flow of agenda-laden information by altering the medium.
familiar signage + new message = culture jamming
Culture Jamming takes many forms. Some of the more well-known proponents include the Billboard Liberation Front, based in San Francisco. Tag along on a "mission" as the BLF's activities are documented in Canadian filmmaker Jill Sharpe's Culture Jam: Highjacking Commercial Culture. Also, ADBUSTERS magazine has long been a font of alternative thinking on our social entity and consumption.
The Bottom Line: With or without the assistance of culture-jammers we owe it to ourselves and the rest of the world to question the messages we are force-fed on a daily basis.
